Toian Gichie a.k.a Toi

Ashleigh: At what age did you start singing?

Toi: I've been singing my whole life for as far back as I can remember, but I have been singing professionally for a little less than 2 years.

Ashleigh: Do you remember your first time performing in front of an audience? How would you describe it?

Toi: Yes I do. Actually it was in 5th grade. I performed Alicia Keys Fallin for of my entire school. I remember being fearless and not having any fear. It sounds cliché, but at that moment, I knew that is what I wanted to do with my life.

Ashleigh: Do you write your own songs?

Toi: At the moment I do write most of my songs, but I also co-write with some very talented artists and my producers.

Ashleigh: When can we expect an album from Toi?

Toi: I do not have a date set right now. I am really just working on putting out quality singles to establish my name in the industry, so far that has being going great, but you can look out for something in the near future.

Ashleigh: Who is your favorite male and female reggae artiste?

Toi: My favorite male reggae artiste right now is Damian Marley, and has been for a while. I love his music, his lyrics are deep, and they take you to a different level of thinking.

My favorite female artist is Etana, she also has some good conscious music.

Ashleigh: If you could collaborate with any artiste, who would you choose?

Toi: I have been loving Adam Levine from Maroon 5, always been a fan of them as well. His voice is very unique.

Ashleigh: Tell us one country in which you would love to perform and why.

Toi: There are many places that I would love to perform. I do not think I can pick just one, really anywhere that appreciates my music, and as long as my music is making someone happy, that will in turn make me happy.

Ashleigh: The biggest financial splurge I've ever made...

Toi: Lol…well I just turned 20 years old so there aren't many splurges that I can say I have done. But the biggest, ummm…probably when I bought my Mac Book, which I love to death. Love u lappy!!!

Ashleigh: 5 things I can't live without are...

Toi: I can’t live without Music, Food, Makeup, Blackberry, and Love.

Ashleigh: What advice do you have for persons aspiring to be in the music business?

Toi: I watched an interview the other day with another female artist, and one thing I specifically remember her saying is, each artists has their own time and place to exist in music, and I fully believe that. If you strongly believe in what you are doing and if you love it, don’t give up. We all have our opportunities, it’s what you do when you get them.
